چکیده

We present an algorithm that an agent can use for determining which of its nested, recursive models of other agents are important to consider when choosing an action. Pruning away less important models allows an agent to take its “best” action in a timely manner, given its knowledge, computational capabilities, and time constraints. We describe a theoretical framework, based on situations, for talking about recursive agent models and the strategies and expected strategies associated with them. This framework allows us to rigorously define the gain of continuing deliberation versus taking action. The expected gain of computational actions is used to guide the pruning of the nested model structure. We have implemented our approach on a canonical multi-agent problem, the pursuit task, to illustrate how real-time, multi-agent decision-making can be based on a principled, combinatorial model. Test results show a marked decrease in deliberation time while maintaining a good perfor-

Bounded rationality via recursion

Current trends for model construction in the field of Agentbased Computational Economics base behavior of agents on either game theoretic procedures (e.g. belief learning, fictitious play, Bayesian learning) or are inspired by theArtificial Intelligence (e.g. reinforcement learning). Evidence from experiments with human subjects puts the first approach in doubt, whereas the second one imposes s...

Overeager Reciprocal Rationality and Mixed Strategy Equilibria

A rational agent in a multiagent world must decide on its actions based on the decisions it expects others to make, but it might believe that they in turn might be basing decisions on what they believe the initial agent will decide. Such reciprocal rationality leads to a nesting of models that can potentially become intractable. To solve such problems, game theory has developed techniques for d...

Your Wish is My Command Sanction-based Obligations in a Qualitative Game Theory

Goffman argues that agents should depict in their mind the decision making of other agents and gives a game-theoretic interpretation of obligations, but decision and game theory are criticized for their ideality assumptions. For example, Simon argues for limited or bounded rationality, and more recently Gmytrasiewitcz and Durfee argue for recursive modelling. In this paper we use recursive mode...

Genetic Programming as an Isomorphic Analog to Bounded Rationality in Agent-Based Models

This paper examines the use of genetic programming and agent-based modeling as an isomorphic analog of bounded rationality in individual decision making. This approach is explored in the context of land change modeling in the southern Yucatán peninsular region of Mexico. Results are reported for experiments linking varied implementations of genetic programming to features of bounded rationality.

Multi-agent Modeling and Simulation for the Evolution of Enterprise IT Capability

This research aims to provide a new perspective on the evolution of enterprise information technology (IT) capability. Based on complex adaptive system (CAS) theory, this paper built a multi-agent simulation conceptual model for the evolution of enterprise IT capability, designed interaction rules of agent, and realized the simulation by Swarm. The results show that the evolution of enterprise ...
